The Dangers Of A Crack Dependency

Crack cocaine is one of the most addictive substances known to man. It does not take long for an individual to obtain an addiction after first trying crack. Crack can cause many serious health problems for individuals who abuse it. In fact, prolonged use of crack cocaine can result in death. If you know someone who is struggling with a crack addiction, it is imperative that you convince them to go through a crack detoxification. This process can be very painful, so it is necessary that you only go through a detox with the guidance and supervision of a medical professional. They will be able to ensure the safety of the person going through the detox.

Crack

Crack cocaine is simply cocaine that has been mixed and cut with baking soda. It then solidifies so that individuals can smoke it in a pipe. The high users get from crack is incredibly powerful, however, also very fleeting. This is why people become addicted to crack so quickly. All it takes is one hit, and your body will be craving the drug. The term crack came from the sound the drug makes when it is being produced or smoked.

Physical Effects

Crack cocaine alters the brain chemistry of the user. This causes a sense of euphoria, or high. It results in supreme confidence, loss of appetite, heightened alertness, insomnia, rapidly increasing energy, and even potential paranoia. It releases a large amount of dopamine which creates the euphoric feeling. It’s normally a five to ten minute high, which when over, causes dopamine levels to plummet which leaves the user in a depressed state. Taking crack in high doses eventually leads to irritability and paranoia and may even turn into a full out paranoid psychosis, which will include auditory hallucinations or even Ekbom’s Syndrome.

Health Problems

There are a multitude of different side effects a person experiences when they use crack cocaine, the short terms effects include constricted blood vessels, dilated pupils, increased temperature as well as blood pressure and heart rate. In higher doses bizarre behavior accompanies the drug abuse and can even lead to violent behavior. Large amounts can cause tremors, vertigo, twitches, as well as paranoia. Toxic reactions can occur as well that resemble that of amphetamine poisoning. Most deaths associated with crack cocaine use are attributed to cardiac arrest, seizures, and respiratory arrest.

Addiction

Crack is one of the most addictive forms of cocaine and one of the most addictive substances in the world. After a person uses crack for the first time, they will continue to chase that high until they either end up in jail, die, or go to rehab. There are no other options. There is no such thing as a functioning crack addict. Using crack, even one time, can be a very dangerous decision for a person to make. It does not take much for a person to have crack abuse.

Apollo

Apollo is the great Greek hero who slew the Python, which was the dragon that lived in Delphi and protected the naval of the Earth. He is the praised mythological deity of music, poetry, plagues, oracles, the sun, medicine, light, and knowledge. His site is known for the Oracle of Delphi where virgins delved out answers to questions.

Oracle Of Delphi

In addition to the Temple of Apollo, the Hippodrome, and of course the elusive site where the Pythia gave their oracles. Delphi has a lot of other sites to offer. Crowned an UNESCO World Heritage site, there is also the Altar of the Chians, the Stoa of the Athenians, Sibyl rock, the theatre, and the tholos just to name a few. These structures are truly remarkable to see.

Myths

The Greeks came up with many wonderful stories and myths throughout their unique history. Many thousands of years ago, the Greeks actually believed that their country was at the very center of the globe. This is where they got the term “belly button of the world” came from. Another funny anecdote that the ancient Greeks used to believe was that the God Apollo actually slayed a dragon in the middle of the Earth.

Coping With A Dependency To Alcohol

Alcohol addiction is a very serious problem that can have many negative consequences for those who suffer from it. If you think you might have an addiction to alcohol or a drinking problem, you should seek medical assistance as soon as you can. One of the smartest and most effective ways to get over an addiction to alcohol is to seek out an alcohol detox facility. After you complete detox at one of these facilities, you can then join an intensive outpatient program to help you continue on the path towards sobriety.

Alcohol

Alcohol abuse is one of the most prominent substance abuse issues facing the country today. Millions of Americans struggle with a dependency to alcohol every single day of their lives. One of the reasons for this is the fact that alcohol is socially accepted and readily available almost anywhere. While alcohol is usually used responsibly by adults, many people do not know how to control themselves and end up developing a drinking problem very quickly. Alcohol addiction costs tax payers millions of dollars each and every year.

Alcohol Dependency

The definition of alcohol dependency is when an individual’s body becomes addicted to the physical effects that alcohol creates. This happens after a long period of alcohol abuse. This is a very serious side effect to alcohol abuse. Once a person who has had a dependency to alcohol tries to stop drinking they will experience very painful withdrawal symptoms.

Common Problem

Unfortunately, we see many instances of alcohol abuse in our daily culture. It is very prevalent in movies as well as television. Another problem associated with alcohol addiction is the fact that it can cause many other problems with other substances. An individual with an alcohol problem, research shows, is far more likely to also use illegal drugs and prescription medications. The risk factors involved with consuming alcohol in conjunction with pain medications cannot be overstated. In fact, recently many celebrities, including Whitney Houston, have died from this exact cause.

Treatment

There is hope however, for those addicted to alcohol. There are many support groups such as AA, where one will be able to find a sponsor who can help them get through the tough times. For someone with a series alcohol addiction a residential setting may be best. They offer on site detoxification services that are medically supervised. One alcohol detox is successfully achieved, a transition to a residential setting occurs. A rigorous schedule of daily activities including group therapies, counseling, and workshops help the recovering addict cope with their addiction and what it is has done to them. It also gives them the necessary tools to find other ways of coping with the stress and undesirable emotions that lead them to alcohol in the first place.

The Terracotta Army of China is an UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a vast expanse of terracotta soldiers that were used in the funerary practice of the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. They represent his armies. If you lose your passport while overseas, you will need to obtain a replacement passport before you are allowed to return home. It is incredibly important to keep your United States passport in a safe location while you are traveling. Since it is so important to have a passport when you travel internationally, it is vital that they are kept in a safe place when they are not in use.

The army consists of terracotta sculptures representing the armies of Qin Shi Huang who was the first emperor of China. This Army represents a form of funerary art, it was buried with Win Shi Huang in 210-209B.C.E. and it’s purpose was to offer protection to the emperor in his afterlife and also made sure that the emperor had people to rule over. The figures vary in size depending upon their role. The tallest figures are generals, and other figures include horses, chariots, and warriors. Josh McKoon Proposes Study Committee on Ethics Reform & Accountability

After reading the headline, “Josh McKoon Proposes Study Committee on Ethics Reform & Accountability,” many folks are probably rolling their eyes and sarcastically muttering under their breath, “Just what we need. Another study that tells us what we already know. Georgia must have comprehensive ethics reform.”

But the study committee proposed by state Senator Josh McKoon (R – Columbus) is a bit different than most legislative study committees. McKoon’s committee seeks input from both legislators and private citizens.

Senate Resolution 1220 creates the Senate Study Committee on Georgia Ethics and Accountability. Membership on this panel would include four representatives from the Georgia Alliance for Ethics Reform.

The Georgia Alliance for Ethics Reform is a coalition of groups including Common Cause Georgia and Georgia Tea Party Patriots.

The Senate Study Committee on Georgia Ethics and Accountability would ask five state Senators and four Georgia Alliance for Ethics Reform representatives to review and recommend legislation designed to strengthen ethics and accountability in this state. The study committee would issue its recommendations by September 30th.

S.R. 1220 was introduced in the Senate, March 21st, and referred to the Rules Committee. A lot of people, I know, will be keeping an eye on this legislation.

Rep. John Lewis Calls Trayvon Martin Murder “Chilling”

The congressman for Georgia’s 5th Congressional District issued the following statement Thursday on the killing of Trayvon Martin.

Mr. Lewis’ statement is perhaps a little quick to judgement on the bigger issues surrounding the tragedy…

“This shooting is a tragedy. It reminds me too much of what happened in the 1930s, 40s and 50s in this country when thousands of people of color were murdered without impunity simply because their lives were thought to be cheap. The death of Trayvon Martin has a chilling effect on black parents and their children, especially their sons.

“They realize that in the 21st century they may still live in a circumstance where the law is no protection, government authorities permit the worst violence, and little is done to enforce justice. Hundreds and thousands of African American boys in Atlanta and other urban cities are killed, just disappear everyday. Of all the violence we hear about on the news, we rarely hear the stories of these boys. It’s as though no one even expects them to survive so their loss is not newsworthy.

“There are forces in America today who want to take us back. They are suppressing voting rights across the country and encouraging legislatures like that in Georgia to expand the right to carry and use violent weapons. This tragedy is a reminder to all those concerned about justice that we cannot be complacent. There is no door that closes, no wall that is built, no line drawn in the sand that prevents us from going back. The only prevention is us.

“We must get informed, know the history, be aware of current attempts to change progressive law. We must advocate and struggle against regression and injustice and march in the streets if necessary to dramatize the need for justice.”
